Obscure Curries that will Make your Taste Buds Tingle

In today’s modern age, the amount of options available, in terms of choice of food, is unprecedented. There are problems that can arise from this, however; namely, once you become settled on a favourite cuisine, it is easy to get stuck in a rut with the same dish. You end up losing your sense of adventure and subsequently get bored. Thankfully, Indian food is famed for the excellent flavours which are present – not only this, but there are countless options available, some of which are more well-known than others. For those of you that would like to place a fast-food order online, but want to mix things up slightly, the team here at ChefOnline are happy to guide you through some of the more obscure curries.

Goan Curry

Whilst most people believe that curries typically consist of meat or vegetables, some of the tastiest options available are those which are centred around seafood. A prime example of this is the goan curry – a dish that usually uses prawns or fish as the primary ingredient, this is a dish which does not carry too much of a kick. However, this does not mean that it is lacking in flavour. A cream sauce which is comparable to that of a tikka masala, this is a fantastic alternative to mainstream curries.

Rajma Masala

Sometimes nicknamed the ‘kidney bean curry’ rajma masala is a dish that, unlike most, utilises a spice blend which is specific just to this curry. With such seasonings included as cumin, cinnamon, and cardamom, you will be able to enjoy a meal which leaves its mark on your tongue, without singing. Should you be a vegetarian that is wanting to try something a little different from your classic selection, rajma masala will certainly open your eyes to the world of curries.

Keema Matar

If you are someone with an appreciation of history and culture, we are certain that you would enjoy sampling a keema matar. In times gone by, this was a dish that was had only by those who were part of the Royal Family – now, the recipe has spread far-and-wide, so that it can be savoured by all. As is the case with many classic recipes, the dish’s primary component is lamb; with the addition of banaspati ghee and water, the result is a fairly creamy sauce that will be devoured instantly when consumed with naan bread.

Keralan Curry

A recipe that is native to Southern India, this is a dish which is synonymous with a zingy flavour that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face. The use of coconut milk ensures that the sauce is fairly fluid, which is certainly a preference for many individuals. The heat in this curry comes from the combination of green chillies and dried red chillies – you certainly won’t be forgetting this dish in a hurry. Not for the faint-hearted, this is a curry that has a medley of tastes associated with it and does not lose its sense of identity.
